In the second episode of Shameless: Hall of Shame season 1, entitled "Kev & V: God Doesn't Give With Both Hands," we delve deep into the lives of Kev and V. The episode follows the lovable and hilarious couple as they navigate parenthood, relationships, and financial struggles in the South Side of Chicago.
We start off with Kev and V discovering that their beloved bar, The Alibi, is now being run by the cult-like organization that Kev unknowingly signed away ownership to in the previous season. With their livelihood in jeopardy, Kev and V must band together with the other Alibi regulars to take back what's rightfully theirs.
As they work to reclaim their bar, we also see Kev and V dealing with the stresses of parenting. With their twins growing up fast, Kev and V are struggling to keep up with the demands of raising them. In one particularly heartwarming scene, we see Kev trying to teach his daughter how to ride a bike, despite never having learned himself.
Throughout the episode, we also see glimpses of Kev and V's past, including how they first met and fell in love. We learn that V was initially put off by Kev's over-the-top personality, but eventually grew to love his kind heart and unwavering loyalty.
But as much as we love Kev and V, the episode doesn't shy away from the darker aspects of their lives. Kev's ongoing struggles with his sexuality are explored, as we see him grappling with his desires and trying to come to terms with his identity.
Additionally, the financial struggles that have plagued Kev and V throughout the series are still very much present. In one scene, we see them haggling with their bank over a mortgage payment, desperately trying to keep their home. It's a poignant reminder that even in the midst of all the humor and light-heartedness, the characters of Shameless are still dealing with real-world problems.
Overall, "Kev & V: God Doesn't Give With Both Hands" is a touching and hilarious episode that showcases the best of these beloved characters. From their struggles to their triumphs, we see Kev and V for who they truly are: flawed, but endlessly endearing.
