Shakespeare and Hathaway: Private Investigators season 1 episode 6, titled "Exit, Pursued By a Bear," follows the duo as they investigate a mysterious death at the annual Bear in the Woods festival. The festival, which is held in honor of the late wildlife artist Esmond Chadwick, is supposed to be a celebration of nature and art, but things take a dark turn when one of the festival-goers is found dead in a bear suit.
Frank and Lu are hired by none other than the festival organizer, Esmond's daughter Carol, to look into the matter. She's convinced that her father's death, several years earlier, was not an accident and that the recent death is somehow connected. As they begin to investigate, they learn that Esmond's death and the recent death are just the tip of the iceberg, and that there's more going on in the festival than meets the eye.
The duo starts by interviewing the various festival-goers, including local landowner Arthur Jenkins, who is known for his bear hunting expeditions, and his young assistant Jack. They also meet Esmond's former assistant, Emily, who was fired by Carol after her father's death. As they talk to the suspects, more secrets come to light, and the investigation takes some unexpected turns.
As the investigation progresses, Frank and Lu find themselves in the middle of a bitter feud between Carol and her cousin Jonty, who is also a festival organizer. Jonty blames Carol for Esmond's death and is determined to sabotage the festival. Meanwhile, Frank and Lu discover some surprising connections between the festival-goers, including a past romantic relationship between Arthur and Emily.
As tensions rise and the festival reaches its climax, Frank and Lu must race against time to solve the case and prevent any more deaths. Along the way, they encounter a variety of colorful characters, including a hippie artist, a bear expert, and a group of animal rights activists.
