The Descent Into Hell Isn't Easy is the second episode in the first season of Shadowhunters. This episode picks up where the pilot left off, with Clary continuing to uncover more about her family and the world of the Shadowhunters.
Clary and Jace continue to take matters into their own hands as they search for Clary's missing mother. The two of them team up with another shadowhunter named Alec and go hunting for a demonic possession. They end up finding themselves in a nightclub called Pandemonium where they come across a warlock named Magnus Bane. Magnus is known for his parties and is well known throughout the Shadow World.
Meanwhile, Simon is desperately trying to find Clary after she takes off in the middle of the night to chase after Isabelle. Simon enlists the help of Luke, a police officer and family friend, to help him look for Clary and keep him safe from demons. Simon is introduced to another character, Raphael, who seems to know more about the Shadow World than he lets on.
As Clary, Jace, and Alec continue their search for Clary's mother, they run into some trouble with the werewolves who are looking for the same thing. Clary's past is slowly coming to light, and the key to finding her mother may lie in her memories.
This episode focuses heavily on character development, particularly with Clary and Jace. We learn about Clary's past and the complicated relationship between her family and the Shadow World. Jace's character is explored further, and we see that there's more to him than meets the eye. Alec's character is also introduced in more depth, and we see his loyalty to his family and his own personal struggles.
The episode also introduces us to more of the Shadow World, including the werewolves and warlocks. We are given a glimpse into the politics and power struggles within the community, adding a layer of complexity to the world-building.
Overall, The Descent Into Hell Isn't Easy is a strong follow-up to the pilot episode. It sets the tone for the series and establishes the characters and the world that they live in. The episode manages to balance action, suspense, and character-driven moments, making it an entertaining and engaging watch.
