Shadow and Bone is an intriguing and captivating fantasy series from Netflix that is based on the Grishaverse novels by Leigh Bardugo. The series is set in a fictional land known as Ravka, which is heavily inspired by Tsarist Russia. Ravka is a nation divided by the Shadow Fold, a swath of darkness that has engulfed the land, separating it from the rest of the world. The Fold is home to flesh-eating creatures called Volcra that prey on anything that dares cross their path. As a result, Ravka is plagued by war, poverty, and despair. The only hope for Ravka lies in the hands of the Grisha, a group of individuals with the ability to manipulate elements such as air, water, and fire.

Jessie Mei Li stars as Alina Starkov, a young cartographer working for the Ravkan Army. Alina discovers that she has the rare ability to summon light, a power that could destroy the Shadow Fold and save her nation from danger. Ben Barnes plays General Kirigan, the head of the Second Army and Alina's mentor. He is also a powerful Grisha known as the Shadow Summoner, capable of manipulating darkness to his will.

Freddy Carter plays Kaz Brekker, the leader of the Crows, a gang of thieves and mercenaries who operate in Ketterdam, the bustling port city. Kaz is a master strategist and is renowned for his cunningness and ingenuity. Archie Renaux plays Malyen Oretsev, a tracker who is fiercely loyal to Alina and accompanies her on her journey to destroy the Shadow Fold. Amita Suman portrays Inej Ghafa, a skilled acrobat and member of the Crows who is also fiercely loyal to Kaz.
