In Seto no Hanayome season 1 episode 3, titled "Island Closest to Heaven," the story continues with Nagasumi, who is still struggling to fit into his new mermaid surroundings. In this episode, the Seto mermaid clan plans a trip to an island, which is believed to be close to heaven.
Nagasumi, after the events of the previous episode, has finally come to terms with his marriage to Seto San, the mermaid princess. The Seto clan and the entire mermaid community are thrilled to be blessed with the marriage of a human and a mermaid. Further, they are excited to have a son-in-law who is unlike any other human.
However, the journey to the island close to heaven is not a typical vacation. For starters, the island is located in a very dangerous ocean, filled with deadly creatures and whirlpools. Nagasumi is terrified and concerned about the safety of his wife, but she assures him that she is well trained in swimming and knows how to defend herself.
As the group reaches the island, they are greeted by stunning scenery and natural beauty. The island has waterfalls, lush green forests, and caves, which are home to some of the rarest creatures in the ocean. Nagasumi is impressed by the mermaid's ability to coexist peacefully with their surroundings. As he explores the island, he sees mermaids fishing with the dolphins and rainbow-colored fish all around.
However, the peace is soon disrupted when one of Nagasumi's schoolmates, Sarutobi Hideyoshi and his gang show up on the island, with the help of their ninja training. Nagasumi had a brief altercation with Hideyoshi before the island trip, and he is not too thrilled to see him there. Moreover, the Seto clan forbids outsiders from ever discovering or finding their island, and Nagasumi fears that Hideyoshi's presence could reveal their secret.
The island trip turns into an entertaining battle between Hideyoshi and Nagasumi, with each trying to one-up the other. However, they soon realize that their squabbles could endanger themselves and others on the island. Nagasumi tries to reason with Hideyoshi, explaining that their presence could lead to the Seto clan's secret being revealed, but Hideyoshi misunderstands and thinks Nagasumi is challenging his authority.
The ensuing fight between Nagasumi and Hideyoshi could have resulted in a disaster, but fortunately, the Seto clan comes to the rescue. They use their mermaid powers to create an illusionary wall, separating the island from the rest of the world. The wall further tricks Hideyoshi and his gang, making them believe that they have been stranded on the island because of their voyage. The Seto clan's clever ruse saves the day, and the trip to the island ends on a positive note.
In conclusion, Seto no Hanayome season 1 episode 3 is an excellent addition to the series. It features breathtaking scenery, standout moments, and plot development. Additionally, the episode adds humor to the mix with the cat-and-mouse game between Hideyoshi and Nagasumi. The audience sees a message of coexistence, trust, and friendship. All in all, this episode is an excellent watch for everyone who wants to witness a blend of fantasy, action, and humor.
