Ep 1. A Yakuza's Wife

A Yakuza's Wife is the first episode of the anime series Seto no Hanayome, also known as My Bride is a Mermaid. It follows Nagasumi Michishio, a teenage boy who nearly drowns in the ocean and is rescued by a mermaid named Sun Seto. As per mermaid law, Sun's existence must be kept a secret from humans, but Nagasumi accidentally sees her and her family's mermaid forms. In order to avoid punishment for breaking the law, Sun's father, a Yakuza boss, demands that Nagasumi marry Sun to avoid exposing their secret.

The episode begins with Nagasumi on vacation with his family at a seaside town. While swimming in the ocean, Nagasumi accidentally drowns and is rescued by Sun, who turns out to be a mermaid. Before she leaves, Sun warns Nagasumi to keep her existence a secret or else she and her family will be killed. Nagasumi, however, can't keep the secret and inadvertently reveals Sun's existence to his parents.

Panicking, Nagasumi runs back to the beach and is confronted by Sun's father, Gōzaburō Seto, who is also the leader of a Yakuza gang. Gōzaburō tells Nagasumi that if he doesn't marry Sun, he'll be killed along with Sun and her family for revealing their existence to humans. Overwhelmed by the situation, Nagasumi agrees to the marriage.

The episode follows Nagasumi as he struggles to adjust to his new life as a member of the Seto family and as Sun's husband. He is quickly introduced to Sun's mother, Ren Seto, who is skeptical of Nagasumi's love for her daughter and warns him that he will be killed if he ever hurts Sun. He also meets Sun's childhood friend, Maki, who is jealous of Nagasumi and tries to sabotage their relationship.

Throughout the episode, Nagasumi tries to prove to Sun's family that he is worthy of being her husband, but constantly finds himself in comedic and dangerous situations. In one instance, he accidentally becomes the target of an assassination attempt by rival Yakuza gangs. In another, he must survive a deadly cooking competition with Ren and Maki.

Despite the challenges, Nagasumi is determined to make his marriage with Sun work and to protect her and her family from harm. As the episode ends, Nagasumi and Sun are about to start their new life together as a married couple, but it is clear that their troubles are far from over.

A Yakuza's Wife sets the stage for the wacky and humorous hijinks that are to come in Seto no Hanayome. The episode introduces the main characters and the surreal world of mermaids and gangsters they inhabit. It is a promising start to a hilarious and heartwarming anime series that is sure to entertain viewers of all ages.
