In Sesame Street season 36 episode 4, titled "Baby Bear's First Day of School," the beloved character Baby Bear is nervous yet excited about his first day of school. The episode opens with him waking up early, eager to start his adventure. As he gathers his supplies and puts on his backpack, he talks with his parents about his worries. They reassure him that he will have a great time and make new friends.
Baby Bear sets out for school and along the way meets up with Elmo, Abby, and Cookie Monster. They all share their own stories of their first days of school and offer advice and encouragement to Baby Bear. As they walk through Sesame Street, they encounter different characters who help them practice counting and identifying shapes, colors, and letters.
When they arrive at school, Baby Bear meets his teacher, Mrs. Goose. She introduces him to the class and shows him around the classroom. Baby Bear's classmates are friendly and welcoming, but Baby Bear is still nervous. Mrs. Goose notices and suggests a fun activity to help him feel more comfortable. She asks each student to share something special about themselves and encourages them to ask Baby Bear questions.
As each student shares, Baby Bear begins to feel more at ease. He shares his love of porridge and his collection of toy cars. The class continues with lessons in reading and writing, music, and art. Baby Bear discovers he has a talent for drawing, and Mrs. Goose encourages him to keep practicing.
At lunchtime, Baby Bear sits with his new friends and they share their favorite foods. Elmo has peanut butter and jelly, Cookie Monster has cookies, and Abby has a rainbow salad with edible glitter. Baby Bear tries some new foods and finds he likes them.
After lunch, they go outside for recess and play hopscotch, tag, and kickball. Baby Bear has a blast and realizes that school is not so scary after all.
As the day comes to a close, Mrs. Goose leads the class in a goodbye ritual. They sing a song and each student gives hugs and high fives. Baby Bear leaves feeling happy and excited for his next day at school.
The episode concludes with Baby Bear back at home, recounting his day to his parents. He shares his new drawings and tells them about the friends he made. They are proud of him and applaud his bravery. The episode ends with Baby Bear falling asleep, dreaming of his next adventure at school.
