Lito Rodriguez (Miguel Ángel Silvestre) is an actor in Mexico City, who is hiding his sexuality from his fans. Kala Dandekar (Tina Desai) is a pharmacist in Mumbai who is about to get married. Capheus Onyango (Aml Ameen) is a bus driver in Nairobi who is trying to raise money to buy AIDS medication for his sick mother. Finally, there is Nomi Marks (Jamie Clayton), a hacktivist and blogger in San Francisco, who is also a trans woman.

As the show progresses, the Sensates become more and more connected, and their powers begin to grow stronger. They can communicate with each other even when they are not physically present, and they share each other's thoughts and feelings. They also learn that they are being hunted down by a mysterious organization called BPO, which wants to capture and study them. Led by the enigmatic Jonas Maliki (Naveen Andrews), the Sensates must band together to try to stop BPO and figure out why they are connected in the first place.
