Jerry's parents are coming into town and they've asked him to pick up a loaf of rye bread from Schnitzer's Bakery, a popular bakery in Brooklyn known for their delicious rye bread. However, when Jerry stops by the bakery, the last loaf of rye bread is sold right in front of him. Desperate to make a good impression on his parents, Jerry enlists the help of his friend Elaine to try to get the rye bread from the woman who bought it. Meanwhile, George is having trouble with his girlfriend Susan's parents, who don't seem to like him very much.
As Jerry and Elaine plot to get the rye bread, they encounter an assortment of characters, including a blind man, a group of street toughs, and a woman with a pet cockatiel. All the while, they are trying to avoid being caught by the woman who has the rye bread. Their plan involves faking a mugging, breaking into the woman's apartment, and even getting a police escort.
Meanwhile, George is struggling to win over Susan's parents, who seem to disapprove of him at every turn. He tries to impress them by bringing them a gift and offering to pay for their meal, but nothing seems to work. Finally, he sneaks a peek at their private family photo album, hoping to find a way to connect with them. But when he tries to relate to them using some of the information he's gained, he only manages to offend them further.
As the episode unfolds, everything seems to be going wrong for Jerry and his friends. They're chased by the toughs, the blind man accidentally ends up with the rye bread, and the woman with the cockatiel is convinced that they're trying to steal her bird. In the end, however, all the pieces come together in a hilarious and satisfying conclusion.
