Jerry Seinfeld and his friends are back in the first episode of season six for "The Chaperone." The show begins with Jerry and Elaine reminiscing about their high school prom night, particularly Elaine's apparent lack of dancing skills. Meanwhile, George is excited about a woman he met named Cheryl and is hopeful that their date will go well so that he can break his curse of bad luck with women. However, he is nervous because he has never actually danced before.
To help out George, Jerry suggests that they hire a professional - someone to show them both how to dance and act as a chaperone on their date. Enter veteran actress Renee Taylor as the rough-around-the-edges but hilarious chaperone, Doris. Doris is cold to George at first, but once she warms up to him, she becomes more like a mother figure, doling out advice and sharing stories from her own prom night.
The other main storyline follows Kramer, who has decided that he wants to get into horse racing after attending a race with Jerry. He even purchases a horse named "Passion's Plea," but quickly finds out that owning a horse is expensive and time-consuming. Kramer turns to Jerry for help as a business partner, but Jerry is hesitant to get involved and refers Kramer to an acquaintance who has experience with horses.
As usual, the episode is filled with hilariously awkward moments and clever one-liners. Larry David's writing shines through, providing plenty of comedic gems throughout the episode. Fans of the show will appreciate the classic Seinfeld humor and the return of some favorite characters such as Newman and George's parents.
Overall, "The Chaperone" is a great start to season six of Seinfeld. The episode combines classic storylines of the show, such as dating mishaps and misadventures, with new twists that keep the show fresh and entertaining. It's a must-watch for fans of the series and a great starting point for newcomers to the show as well.
