Jerry, Elaine, George, and Kramer find themselves at Monk's Cafe discussing their dating lives; Jerry and Elaine are dating their respective messy paretners, Elaine's new boyfriend wants her to prove her love for him by getting a tattoo of his name, George is struggling to find a decent date, and Kramer has a date with a woman whose phone number is actually for a bakery.
Meanwhile, the cafe's manager, Rudy, comes down with a case of tennis elbow and is unable to work. Jerry suggests that his unemployed, aspiring writer friend, Bob, take over. Bob impresses the group with his unorthodox management style, including naming various sandwiches after each of them, and creating a "no cutlery" policy.
However, Bob's eccentric behavior quickly becomes more unbearable as he hangs a painting of comedian Sinbad and turns the cafe into a trendy nightclub, complete with a bouncer. Jerry and the gang try to confront Bob about his behavior, but he's too caught up in his newfound power.
The episode comes to a head when Rudy returns to find his cafe transformed and his employee, who he didn't employ, running the show. He fires Bob on the spot, much to the amusement of the group. Jerry and his friends return to Monk's Cafe, relieved that order has been restored and that they can continue their regular, comfortable routine.
