Jerry gets a new air conditioner that he names "Arthur," but the noise from the unit keeps him up at night, leading him to have nightmares and a poignant moment with the AC unit in question. Meanwhile, Elaine and George take a trip to the pound to try and save a bulldog that has a problem with drooling, but George balks at the idea of adopting a dog, for fear that it will destroy his sex life.
Things get complicated when Elaine falls in love with the bulldog, and tries to persuade George to adopt it. George, however, is hesitant, and tries to dissuade Elaine from adopting the dog. Meanwhile, Kramer tries to interest Jerry in investing in a scheme he's concocted to sell salvaged lobsters, but Jerry isn't interested. Kramer, however, is undeterred and decides to launch his lobster business anyway, with disastrous results.
Throughout the episode, Jerry struggles with the decision to keep "Arthur" or return it, and Elaine tries to figure out how to convince George to adopt the bulldog. In the end, all is revealed and the characters learn important lessons about the meaning of loyalty, friendship, and love.
