In Secret Army season 1 episode 4 titled "Child's Play," Albert Foiret, owner of the Cafe Candide, provides shelter for the son of a Resistance member who has been arrested by the Gestapo. The boy, who is around 10 years old, is scared and traumatized after witnessing his mother's arrest and begs for Albert's help. Determined to keep the child safe, Albert and Monique agree to take care of him until they can find a way to get him out of the country.

Meanwhile, Natalie Chantrens, a young woman who works at the local hospital, is tasked with taking care of a wounded German soldier who has been brought in for treatment. Despite her initial reluctance to treat the enemy, she discovers that the soldier, Major Erwin Brandt, is a decent man who treats her with respect and kindness. As she gets to know him better, she finds herself conflicted between her duty to her country and her growing feelings for the enemy.

Back at the Cafe Candide, the situation becomes more complicated when the Gestapo turns up looking for the boy. Albert must use all of his cunning and resources to keep the child hidden, even as the Germans become more suspicious and aggressive in their search. Monique enlists the help of a smuggler named Max, who agrees to take the boy across the border into Switzerland. But as they prepare to make their escape, they realize that they are being followed by the Gestapo and must come up with a new plan.

As tensions rise and danger mounts, Albert and Monique must make difficult choices to protect the boy and their own safety. With the help of their allies in the Resistance, they devise a plan to smuggle the boy out of the country disguised as a member of a group of tourists. But as they make their way to the border, they are stopped by a German checkpoint and forced to improvise a daring escape.

In the end, the child is safely delivered into the hands of the Resistance and Albert and Monique are left to ponder the risks and sacrifices they must make to fight against the Nazi regime. The episode is a tense and emotional exploration of the human cost of war and the choices that individuals must make when faced with impossible situations.
