In season 2 episode 2 of Sea Patrol, entitled "Fortune Favours," the HMAS Hammersly crew is tasked with intercepting an illegal fishing vessel off the coast of Australia. However, things quickly take a turn for the worse when the fishing boat attempts to ram the Hammersly and a member of the crew is injured in the altercation.
As the Hammersly continues to pursue the fishing vessel, they discover that the boat is being used by a group of smugglers who are trafficking drugs across the ocean. The stakes are raised when the smugglers threaten to kill the injured crew member unless the Hammersly backs off.
Meanwhile, the crew has to deal with their own personal issues. Chief Petty Officer Robert Dixon struggles with his feelings for his ex-wife, who is also a member of the Hammersly crew. Leading Seaman Kate McGregor tries to come to terms with her decision to re-enlist in the Navy and her desire to start a family. And Able Seaman Rebecca "Bomber" Brown faces repercussions for disobeying orders during the fishing vessel altercation.
As tensions rise and the crew races against the clock to stop the smuggling operation, they must rely on their training, teamwork, and luck to come out on top.
