As the twelfth episode of the second season of Sea Patrol begins, the crew of the HMAS Hammersley receives a surprise visit from their former Commanding Officer, Mike Flynn. Flynn warns his old team that a dangerous group of smugglers is active in the area and an undercover mission is necessary to stop them. However, the mission will require the cooperation of a fellow officer who has a personal vendetta against Flynn.
The Hammersley sets out to meet with the officer, who, despite initial reluctance, joins the mission. The group infiltrates the smuggler's base disguised as potential buyers, but soon things take a dangerous turn. The team quickly realizes they are in over their heads and struggling to maintain their cover. As tensions rise and the operation starts to unravel, they must rely on their wits, skills, and a bit of luck to keep themselves alive.
Back on the HMNZS Te Kaha, Buffer and Charge are tasked with keeping an eye on a group of detainees. As the day wears on, the officers become increasingly complacent, leading to a dangerous situation. Can they work together to keep the detainees in check, or will their lack of attention lead to disaster?
Meanwhile, on the Hammersley, Dutchy and Swain are left in charge of the ship. When they receive a distress signal from a stranded sailor, they spring into action to mount a rescue mission. But as they navigate the treacherous waters and try to save the sailor, they soon realize that danger lurks around every corner.
As the episode unfolds, the tension builds, and the stakes get higher with each passing minute. The crew of the Hammersley must work together and come up with a plan to stop the smugglers before it's too late. All the while, they must also navigate their own interpersonal relationships and work through a host of personal issues that threaten to derail the mission entirely.
In the end, though, they pull together and manage to thwart the smugglers, bringing another successful mission to a close. The crew returns to base, exhausted but triumphant, with a renewed sense of purpose and a greater appreciation for the dangers they face every day on the high seas.
