Ep 9. Jade Cavern
- March 5, 1960
In Sea Hunt season 3 episode 9, titled "Jade Cavern," underwater adventurer Mike Nelson is hired by two businessmen to help them retrieve a valuable shipment of jade from a sunken ship in a dangerous underwater cavern.
The episode starts as Nelson is introduced to the two businessmen, Martin and Peters, who explain their plan to him. Many years ago, a shipment of jade was being sent from China to the United States when the ship sank in an underwater cavern. The jade is still down there, and the two businessmen want to retrieve it before their competitors do.
Nelson agrees to help and begins his mission by studying the layout of the cavern and the areas where they can find the jade. The cavern is dangerous, with strong currents and narrow passages, but Nelson is up for the challenge.
As they start their descent into the cavern, the two businessmen follow behind Nelson on a rope. When they reach the bottom, they discover the sunken ship lying on the ocean floor. Nelson leads the way as they swim into the ship's hold, where they find the jade cargo still intact.
Just as they begin to collect the jade, they notice that the ship is starting to shift. Nelson becomes worried and advises the two businessmen to leave the cave immediately, but they refuse to listen to him. The businessmen's greed has blinded them, and they are more concerned about getting as much jade as possible.
Suddenly, a powerful underwater tremor rocks the cavern. The ship starts to come loose from the cave's ceiling and falls, trapping the three men inside the cavern. With no other options, they need to find a way out.
Nelson takes charge, and they start swimming toward the exit. Along the way, they encounter numerous obstacles. They have to navigate through narrow passages, avoid sharp underwater rocks, and swim against strong currents.
As they are making their way through the cavern, they encounter a group of sharks. The sharks start to circle the divers, making it difficult for them to continue. Nelson advises them to remain calm and try to scare off the sharks. The two businessmen start to panic, but Nelson manages to keep them under control, and they escape without any incident.
Finally, after what seems like an eternity, they manage to find a way out of the Jade Cavern. The three men swim to the surface, tired but relieved to be alive. When they reach the surface, they are greeted by a boat waiting to take them back to the mainland.
At the end of the episode, the two businessmen thank Nelson for saving their lives and apologize for their greed. They give him a fair share of the jade, admitting that without his guidance, they would not have made it out alive. Nelson accepts the jade and tells them that they should stick to their day jobs and leave the underwater adventuring to him.
"Jade Cavern" is an exciting episode of Sea Hunt, full of underwater adventures and dangers. As always, Mike Nelson comes through, saving the day and teaching others a valuable lesson about greed and risking one's life for wealth. The episode showcases the beauty and danger of the underwater world, reminding viewers of the importance of respecting its power and limits.
