Mike Nelson is back in action once again in Sea Hunt's season 2 episode 17, titled Underwater Survey. As an experienced diver and underwater detective, Nelson is hired by a construction company to help survey a piece of land that they are interested in building on.
The episode begins with Nelson meeting with the construction foreman, who explains that they need him to inspect the underwater portion of the land for any potential hazards or obstacles in the way of construction. Nelson is intrigued by the challenge and agrees to take the job.
As he prepares his gear and dives into the water, Nelson is immediately greeted by a school of curious fish. The underwater landscape is beautiful, with clear blue water and an abundance of marine life. But as he begins his inspection, Nelson quickly realizes that this job is going to be more difficult than he originally thought.
The land in question is located near a shipping lane, and the underwater traffic has led to a considerable amount of debris accumulating on the seabed. Nelson must navigate carefully through the wreckage, avoiding sharp metal and dangerous obstacles in order to get an accurate view of the land.
To make matters worse, Nelson discovers that the land is also the site of an old shipwreck. The wreck is completely buried in the silt and debris, but Nelson can see enough to know that it could potentially be a hazard to the construction process. He decides to investigate further, hoping to uncover any potential dangers before it's too late.
As he explores the wreck, Nelson discovers that it was a cargo ship carrying a large amount of explosives. The explosives have long since deteriorated, but the rusted containers could potentially cause a catastrophic explosion if they were to be disturbed. Nelson reports his findings to the foreman, who is extremely grateful for the information.
With the underwater survey complete, Nelson heads back to the surface. But as he begins his ascent, a sudden underwater current catches him off guard. Nelson is swept away from the construction site and into open water, where he is forced to fight against the relentless current in order to swim back. The current is brutal, but Nelson is determined to make it back to shore.
Back on land, Nelson reports his findings to the foreman and construction crew. They are impressed with his thoroughness and grateful for his help in identifying potential hazards. As a thank you for the job well done, the foreman offers to take Nelson out for a celebratory dinner.
Underwater Survey is an intense and exciting episode that showcases Mike Nelson's expertise as an underwater detective. With the threat of dangerous debris and a potentially explosive shipwreck, Nelson's underwater survey is not for the faint of heart. But his determination and skill make him the perfect man for the job, and he proves once again that he is one of the best in the business.
