SCP Foundation season 3 episode 8 "SCP-860" follows the Foundation's containment procedures for an anomalous object designated SCP-860, also known as "The Blue Key." The episode opens with a briefing from the Facility Director, who explains that SCP-860 is a key that can open a portal to an alternate dimension inhabited by predatory creatures known as "The Hounds."
The team tasked with containing SCP-860 consists of a security detail, a medical team, and a research team, all of whom are briefed on the dangers associated with activating the key. The security detail is armed with standard Foundation-issue weaponry, while the medical team has been provided with specialized gear to protect against the Hounds' venomous attacks.
After securing SCP-860 in a reinforced containment chamber, the team begins testing the key's abilities. The research team discovers that SCP-860's portal leads to a dark forest, populated by the Hounds. Using a live video feed, they observe the creatures as they hunt and kill animals in their domain.
One member of the security detail volunteers to enter the portal, equipped with a camera and a communication device. Upon entering the forest, he finds that the Hounds are highly sensitive to sound. He is able to move stealthily through the forest, avoiding detection from the Hounds. However, he discovers that the portal only remains open for a limited amount of time, forcing him to make a hasty return to the Foundation.
As the team continues to experiment with SCP-860, they discover that the key's portal is not static, but rather appears to move and shift within the alternate dimension. The team hypothesizes that SCP-860 may be linked to other SCP objects, and sets out to determine if there are any connections.
The team's investigations eventually lead them to the discovery of several other anomalous objects, including SCP-939 (a pack of sapient canines), SCP-087 (an infinite staircase), and SCP-087-B (a malevolent entity that resides in SCP-087). They determine that SCP-860 is in fact linked to these objects, and theorize that the Hounds may act as a form of defense mechanism for the SCPs.
The episode concludes with the team recommending that SCP-860 be designated as a Euclid-class object, due to the unpredictable nature of its portal. The Facility Director agrees, and orders the key to be kept under close observation by the Foundation's researchers. The team continues to investigate the links between SCP-860 and other SCP objects, in the hopes of discovering more about the alternate dimension and its inhabitants.
