Ep 10. Bedlam in the Big Top

Scooby Doo, Where Are You? season 1 episode 10, Bedlam in the Big Top, follows Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, Fred, Daphne, and Velma as they head to the circus to investigate some strange occurrences. The gang is at a carnival when they see a clown running away from something. They approach him to find out what's going on, but he simply runs away.

Despite this strange encounter, the gang heads into the carnival, where they notice that the atmosphere is tense. The ringmaster, Mr. Barnstorm, speaks in a hushed tone and hurries them along to see the show. Inside, the circus is equally strange with the clowns and acrobats acting suspiciously. The gang is treated to a show filled with trapeze artists and clowns, but they notice that the performers seem to be distracted.

During the show, a clown chases a terrified woman through the audience and into the tent. The woman is revealed to be a tightrope walker named Laura, who works with her partner, Frank. Frank informs the gang that Laura has been receiving threatening letters and creepy notes in her dressing room.

The gang decides to investigate and splits up. While Velma researches the letters, the rest of the gang follows Laura and Frank. They stop at the circus midway where they meet a suspicious clown who watches over the balloon dart game. After some prodding, the clown tells them that he had seen strange footprints leading into the midway as Frank and Laura walked by.

While wandering around, the gang encounters a mischievous monkey who seems to be helping them solve the mystery. They follow his lead and end up in the main tent, where they find a mysterious hidden room. Inside, they find a large cage filled with the circus's animals.

Soon after, the gang is captured by the clown and tied up. However, they're saved by the monkey, who unlocks their bonds and helps them escape. They find themselves back in the hidden room where they discover that the culprit behind the strange occurrences at the circus is none other than Mr. Barnstorm, the ringmaster.

The gang works together to trap Mr. Barnstorm, who is revealed to have been using his circus equipment to try and frighten Laura so she would quit. He had been using the animals to make strange noises to scare Laura and had been sending her the creepy notes.

In the end, the gang is able to apprehend Mr. Barnstorm and turn him over to the authorities. Laura and Frank thank the gang for helping them and the circus returns to its usual joyous atmosphere.
