In Saving Hope season 4 episode 3, titled "Start Me Up," the medical staff at Hope-Zion Hospital is faced with a variety of challenging cases. As the episode opens, the hospital is dealing with a power outage, which means the staff must work quickly to transfer patients who require life support to the operating theatre. Dr. Reid (played by Erica Durance) is tasked with overseeing these transfers, but she's quickly overwhelmed by the number of patients that need to be moved.
Meanwhile, Dr. Bishop (played by Peter Mooney) is dealing with a case that's particularly close to home. His sister, who's suffering from a serious illness, has come to the hospital for treatment. Dr. Bishop is torn between his personal and professional responsibilities, and must navigate a difficult course in order to ensure that his sister receives the best possible care.
In another part of the hospital, Dr. Shahir (played by Huse Madhavji) is working with a patient who's exhibiting some unusual symptoms. Despite his best efforts, Dr. Shahir can't seem to figure out what's causing the patient's illness, which puts him at odds with another member of the medical staff.
Throughout the episode, we see the hospital's doctors and nurses working together to overcome the challenges that come their way. Some of these challenges are medical in nature, while others stem from interpersonal conflicts. But despite the obstacles they face, the staff at Hope-Zion Hospital remains committed to providing the best possible care to their patients.
As the episode draws to a close, we see the hospital's staff begin to come to terms with some of the more difficult aspects of their work. They confront loss and grief, but also discover moments of hope and joy. Ultimately, the episode reminds us that the medical profession is one that requires great skill, empathy, and dedication, and that those who choose to pursue it must be prepared to confront the full spectrum of human experience.
