Zack Morris, the cool guy at Bayside High School, has organized a charity fundraiser dance to raise money for the less fortunate students at the school. However, Mr. Belding, the school principal, informs him that the fundraiser has not attracted the expected turnout, and the donations are far less than what Zack had anticipated. To gain more donations and create more interest in the fundraiser, Zack comes up with an ingenious plan. He proposes a blind date auction, where the boys in school can bid on the girls, and the highest bidder gets to take the girl he bid for to the dance.
Once the idea is approved, the girls in school are invited to participate, and they are told that the money raised from the auction will benefit those students who cannot afford to attend the dance. The girls are excited, and most of them sign up. However, when the boys find out about the auction, they are hesitant to participate. They fear that the girls will be disappointed if they get paired up with someone they do not like and they will have to spend the evening with someone they do not want to be with. However, Zack convinces them that it is for a good cause, and it will be a fun way to get to know each other better.
The next day, the auction begins, and the girls are expectedly enthusiastic. However, some boys are reluctant and hesitant to bid, while others are competitive and aggressive with their bidding. Screech, the school nerd who has a crush on Lisa, manages to win the bid for Lisa but only because he offers to double his bid, and nobody else bothers to compete with him. Meanwhile, Kevin, a new student at Bayside who has recently transferred from another school, manages to win the bid for Kelly, and they hit it off instantly.
As the night of the dance approaches, the students begin to prepare for the big event. At the dance, there is a sea of glittering dresses, sleek tuxedos and fancy hairstyles. Belding keeps a watchful eye on the dance, making sure that there is no misbehavior or inappropriate behavior from the students. Zack is also present, overseeing the event and making sure everything is going smoothly. At the dance, Kevin and Kelly have a great time together, and they find out that they have a lot in common. Lisa and Screech dance together, and although Lisa is not interested in him romantically, she appreciates his effort to make her happy.
Meanwhile, Jessie, who is one of the girls who participated in the auction, is having a miserable time. Her date, Brian, is boring, and she cannot wait for the night to be over. However, when she finds out that Brian is actually interested in her, she gives him a chance, and they end up having a good time together. Similarly, Slater is paired with a girl he dislikes, and he initially refuses to dance with her. However, when he realizes that there is more to her than he thought, he changes his mind, and they end up having fun as well.
In the end, the auction is a success, and the fundraiser raises more money than expected. The girls who participated in the auction are happy because they got to spend an evening with someone they like, and the less fortunate students at Bayside can now attend the dance. Zack is pleased with the outcome, and he realizes that helping others is a rewarding experience. The show ends with the students dancing together while Mr. Belding looks on with satisfaction.
