Leslie Jones, the former cast member and legendary comedian, hosted season 47 episode 8 of the iconic late-night live sketch comedy series, Saturday Night Live, joined by the young superstar Billie Eilish who was also the musical guest. The episode promised plenty of laughs, and it definitely delivered.
The show kicked off with a Halloween-themed cold open, with cast members portraying the scariest ghosts and ghouls, poking fun at the upcoming holiday. In her opening monologue, Jones shared her journey from a writer to a cast member on SNL and also explored how she had grown as an actress and writer over the years. She also talked about body positivity, ageism, and her experience of becoming a first-time mom at the age of 53.
In one of the sketches, Jones played a curious yet skeptical guest on a supernatural talk show called "Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction." She was joined by Redd and Mikey, who played the co-hosts on the show. Jones' character didn't believe in the supernatural world, but the other two co-hosts had plenty of spooky ghost stories to share, making her extremely frightened.
Another sketch involved a spoof on the daytime court show genre, with Jones playing a bailiff who was much more of a showboat than she needed to be. The sketch featured Kyle Mooney as the increasingly exasperated judge, trying to handle a bizarre and wacky group of litigants, including Beck Bennett and Ego Nwodim.
One sketch, in particular, stood out, where Jones played a teacher in a high school assembly, and Billie Eilish played herself, in a segment called "Teacher Trial." In this sketch, the tables were turned, and the students were given a chance to call out their teachers for all sorts of insane and hilarious accusations, including a teacher who "touched Selena's backpack too much."
Eilish was also the musical guest of the episode, and she delivered two stunning performances of her songs "Happier Than Ever" and "Male Fantasy." In addition, she appeared in a sketch where she portrayed a singer whose newest album is more about her dad's disgusting habits than about music.
Overall, the episode was a hit, with plenty of laughs and entertainment for everyone. The combination of Jones' experience and humor, plus Eilish's fresh and youthful energy, made for an amazing episode of Saturday Night Live. It was a perfect balance of old-school and modern comedy that everyone can appreciate.
