In the seventh episode of season 46 of Saturday Night Live, host Jason Bateman and musical guest Morgan Wallen take the stage for a night of comedy and music.
Jason Bateman brings his deadpan humor to the cold open, where he plays a doctor trying to explain the COVID-19 vaccine to a group of skeptical patients. From there, he jumps into a monologue that includes impersonations of some of his famous co-stars, like Jennifer Aniston and Michael Cera.
The sketches of the night tackle a variety of topics, from holiday traditions to airline safety protocols. One standout sketch features Bateman as a Southern pastor leading a Christmas pageant that goes off the rails, while another spoofs the recent social media trend of turning songs into sea shanties.
In between the sketches, musical guest Morgan Wallen performs two of his hit songs, including "7 Summers" and "Still Goin' Down". Wallen's performance is also notable for how it addresses his recent controversy, where he was removed from the show's lineup earlier this season for violating COVID-19 protocols. In a pre-taped segment, Wallen appears alongside Bateman and SNL cast member Beck Bennett to poke fun at his own misstep.
Overall, the episode is a solid night of laughs and entertainment, with Bateman proving once again why he's a reliable host and the SNL writers keeping the jokes coming.
