On February 14, 2009, Saturday Night Live aired its 14th episode of the 34th season with host Steve Martin. This marked Martin's 15th time hosting the show, breaking the record for most times hosting at the time.

The cold open featured a sketch of the political satire "Hardball" with Darrell Hammond playing host Chris Matthews. The sketch poked fun at the then-recent appointment of Illinois Senator Roland Burris and the controversy surrounding it.

Steve Martin's monologue was a musical performance, where he sang about his record-breaking hosting gig and joining the "Five-Timers Club" with fellow hosts including Alec Baldwin and Tom Hanks. Martin also received a special surprise from former SNL cast member Dan Aykroyd, who appeared in a "wild and crazy guy" costume.

The episode also featured several sketches, including "The Rock Obama," a parody of the then-upcoming film "G.I. Joe" with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson playing Barack Obama and Fred Armisen playing North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, and "Dancer at the Bar," a sketch where Martin played a creepy older man trying to pick up women at a bar.

One of the more memorable sketches of the episode was "Digital Short: Laser Cats 3D," a continuation of the popular "Laser Cats" series starring Andy Samberg and Bill Hader. The sketch was a parody of 3D movies and featured Martin as himself trying to pitch the idea to Lorne Michaels.

The episode also included musical performances from Jason Mraz, who performed his hit song "I'm Yours" and appeared in a sketch about a group of friends trying to sing along to the song, and "I'm on a Boat" by The Lonely Island featuring T-Pain.

One of the final sketches of the night was "What Up With That," a recurring sketch featuring Kenan Thompson as host Diondre Cole and Martin as himself playing the flute. The sketch is known for its chaotic nature, with numerous guests being constantly interrupted and Cole's tendency to break into song.

Overall, the episode was well-received by both fans and critics, with Martin's experience and comedic timing shining through in his hosting duties. The episode's musical performances also added to the overall entertainment value of the show.
