Ep 9. Bridging the Gap
- January 1, 1970
In this episode of Sarah Off the Grid season 2, titled "Bridging the Gap," Sarah Richardson and her team continue their efforts to build a sustainable off-grid home in Ontario, Canada. As the project nears completion, Sarah tackles one of the biggest challenges yet: building a bridge to connect the two sections of the property over a deep ravine.
To start, Sarah and her longtime collaborator, Tommy, gather materials for the bridge. They return with heavy-duty beams and steel cable, among other supplies. With the help of some heavy machinery, they begin to construct the bridge, working together to make sure everything is secure and safe. Meanwhile, the rest of the team works on finishing up some of the final touches on the house.
The construction process is a difficult one, with Sarah and Tommy encountering all sorts of challenges along the way. At one point, one of the beams they're trying to install gets stuck in the ground, leaving them scratching their heads over how to proceed. But with perseverance and problem-solving, they eventually figure out a way to extricate the beam and get it into place.
While the team works on the bridge and finishes up the house, Sarah reflects on the journey that has led her to this point. She talks about the importance of sustainability and living off the grid, and how this project has pushed her to her limits both creatively and physically. She also shares some of her favorite design elements of the house, including a stunning fireplace and a unique indoor garden.
As the episode comes to a close, the bridge and house are both nearly complete. Sarah and her team take a well-deserved break to celebrate their hard work and reflect on what they've achieved. There are still some finishing touches to be done, but the end is in sight - and Sarah couldn't be happier with how things are turning out. With the bridge in place, the property is now fully connected, and Sarah can't wait to begin her next chapter in this beautiful off-grid home.
