This Little TV Went to Market is the fifth episode of Sanford and Son's third season. The show follows the lives of Fred Sanford (Redd Foxx) and his son Lamont (Demond Wilson), two junk dealers living in Los Angeles.
In this episode, Fred and Lamont are at their junk shop when Lamont brings out a small portable television set. Fred is intrigued by the television set and asks how much it's worth. Lamont tells him it's worth $50, but Fred thinks it might be worth more.
Fred's friend Bubba shows up, and Fred excitedly shows him the television set. Bubba tells Fred that there's a big electronics store in the area that might be interested in buying the television set. Fred decides to go to the store to sell the television set and make a profit.
When they arrive at the store, Fred is immediately greeted by the store owner, Mr. Gaerity (John Fiedler). Mr. Gaerity is intrigued by the television set and offers Fred $100 for it. Fred tries to haggle for a higher price but eventually agrees to the offer.
As Fred and Lamont are leaving the store, Mr. Gaerity has a change of heart and decides to cancel the sale. He tells Fred that he made a mistake and that he can't buy the television set after all. Fred is furious, and he and Lamont go back to their junk shop empty-handed.
Later, Fred comes up with a plan to get revenge on Mr. Gaerity. He disguises himself as an old man and goes back to the store to try to sell the television set to Mr. Gaerity again. This time, Mr. Gaerity falls for the disguise and offers Fred $125 for the television set. Fred tries to haggle for a higher price, but Mr. Gaerity holds firm. Fred agrees to the offer and rushes out of the store with the money.
As Fred and Lamont are celebrating their victory, they hear a knock at the door. It turns out that Mr. Gaerity has come to their junk shop to confront them. He accuses Fred of tricking him and demands that he give the money back. Fred refuses to give the money back and instead offers to sell Mr. Gaerity the television set for $200.
Mr. Gaerity agrees to buy the television set for $200, and Fred is thrilled. However, just as they are finalizing the sale, the police show up and arrest Fred for fraud. It turns out that Mr. Gaerity was in on the plan all along and had called the police beforehand.
In the end, Fred is released from jail and returns to his junk shop. Lamont reminds him that he still has the television set, but Fred tells him it's not worth anything anymore. Lamont turns on the television set, and they both sit down to watch it.
This episode showcases Fred's cleverness and scheming, as well as his ability to get into trouble with the law. It also highlights the relationship between Fred and Lamont, who work together to try to make a profit. Overall, it's a fun and entertaining episode that will leave viewers laughing and feeling nostalgic for a simpler time.
