Ep 26 - A Visit From Lena Horne
In this episode of Sanford & Son, Fred and Lamont are excited to receive a visit from legendary singer and actress Lena Horne. Lena is visiting Los Angeles and wants to stop by the junkyard to see Fred, whom she has known for many years.
Fred is thrilled at the prospect of hosting such a famous guest and goes to great lengths to make sure everything is perfect for her visit. He cleans up the yard and the house, buys new furniture, and even dons a suit and tie for the occasion. Lamont isn't as excited about the visit, however, and is skeptical of Fred's motives.
When Lena arrives, she is gracious and kind to both Fred and Lamont, and they all sit down to chat over a cup of coffee. Lena is interested in Fred's life and work, and she listens attentively as he tells her about his dreams and aspirations. Fred is in his element, regaling her with stories of his adventures and mishaps, and she seems to be enjoying the conversation.
As the afternoon wears on, Lena decides to sing a few songs for Fred and Lamont. She performs a beautiful rendition of "Stormy Weather," and Fred is moved to tears by her talent and artistry. Lena then asks Fred if he would like to sing a duet with her, and he eagerly accepts.
As they prepare to sing, Lamont begins to feel left out and unimportant. He feels that Fred is hogging all of Lena's attention and doesn't include him in the conversation or the music. Lamont decides to leave the room and go outside, feeling angry and frustrated.
Fred becomes upset when he realizes that Lamont has left and goes outside to talk to him. Lamont explains how he feels and tells Fred that he thinks he is being neglected and ignored. Fred is taken aback and apologizes, saying that he didn't mean to leave Lamont out and that he loves him very much.
In the end, Lena bids farewell to Fred and Lamont and says that she has had a wonderful time visiting them. Fred is emotional and thanks her for giving him such a special day. Lamont is still upset, but he and Fred hug and reconcile their differences.
This episode of Sanford & Son showcases the talents of Lena Horne as well as the complex relationship between Fred and Lamont. It is a heartwarming and poignant example of the power of forgiveness and the importance of family.
