However, her impulsiveness proves to be her downfall when she is caught by the facility's security and taken into custody.

As the investigation progresses, Magnus and her team discover that the thief is actually a woman named Kate Freelander, a former employee of the Sanctuary who was fired for stealing artifacts. Kate had resorted to stealing to get back at Magnus and the Sanctuary for her termination.

Magnus confronts Kate, and they engage in a heated argument where Kate reveals that she is dying of a rare disease and that she used the stolen artifacts to develop a cure for herself. Magnus sympathizes with Kate's plight, but she cannot excuse the harm that Kate has caused by stealing and endangering innocent civilians.

In the end, Kate turns herself in to the authorities, and Ashley is released from custody. Magnus learns of Kate's cure for her disease and decides to help her by using the Sanctuary's resources to develop a more permanent cure.
