Ep 1. A Moon Star is Born

Luna can speak and reveals to Usagi that she has been chosen to become a Sailor Guardian, a warrior who will protect the world from evil. Luna gives Usagi a brooch with a crescent moon emblem on it, which Usagi can use to transform into a Sailor Guardian. At first, Usagi is hesitant, but she eventually agrees to help Luna and becomes Sailor Moon.

Meanwhile, a group of mysterious villains known as the Dark Kingdom has arrived on Earth. They send out a monster to obtain energy from humans, which they need to revive their master, Queen Beryl. When Sailor Moon encounters the monster, she is initially frightened and unsure of what to do. However, Luna helps guide her and teaches her how to use her powers.

Eventually, Sailor Moon is able to defeat the monster with the help of a mysterious boy named Tuxedo Mask, who appears throughout the episode and seems to have a connection to Sailor Moon. After the battle, Usagi pretends to be sick to get out of school and meets up with Luna to learn more about her new role as a Sailor Guardian.

Overall, Sailor Moon season 1 episode 1 does an excellent job of setting up the show's premise and introducing viewers to the main character, Usagi. While the episode has a somewhat formulaic "monster of the week" structure, it is saved by the charm and likability of Usagi, whose relatable teenage struggles make her an endearing protagonist. Additionally, the episode sets up several intriguing mysteries, such as the nature of Tuxedo Mask's connection to Sailor Moon and the overall goals of the Dark Kingdom.
