Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes on Television is a hilarious comedy/crime show that depicts Ryan Hansen, a self-absorbed actor, paired with a no-nonsense detective, played by Samira Wiley, in trying to solve crimes in Los Angeles.

In season 1 episode 3, titled Joel McHale Is: Ryan Hansen, Ryan Hansen and Detective Mathers go undercover at a high-end event to crack down on an elusive jewel thief named The Raccoon. Unbeknownst to most, Joel McHale is also in attendance, and Ryan Hansen sees an opportunity to put his acting skills to the test by pretending to be him. With the Detective's help, Ryan manages to position himself as a potential buyer, thereby infiltrating the inner circle of the Raccoon.

As they attempt to gather evidence, they discover that the Raccoon's target is not just simple jewels, but something of much greater value. Alliances are formed, secrets are uncovered, and nothing is as it seems. With time running out, Ryan and Detective Mathers must find a way to apprehend the Raccoon and retrieve the stolen goods.

Throughout the episode, Ryan Hansen constantly breaks the fourth wall to address the audience and make jokes, showcasing his comedic talent. Wiley's character, on the other hand, remains stoic, grounded, and often exasperated by Ryan's antics, making for an incredible dynamic duo that keep viewers engaged from start to finish.

Aside from the main plot, there are hilarious subplots involving other actors, including an ongoing prank war between Hansen and McHale, which keeps the laughs coming.
