In the second episode of the third season of RWBY, titled "New Challengers", our favorite group of huntresses-in-training are back and more determined than ever. The episode starts out with Yang still reeling from the events of the previous season's finale, and her teammates are trying to help her through it. Meanwhile, the world of Remnant is getting a lot more dangerous.
The episode opens with a new character, a mysterious girl named Mercury, who seems to be up to no good. It is soon revealed that she is a member of a new group of fighters, the aptly named "Team Mercury". This is a group of hunters that are on the prowl for the best fighters in the world, and they're not above cheating to get their way.
Of course, our protagonists are more than up to the challenge. Blake decides to investigate Mercury and her team, while Weiss, Yang, and Ruby look for new challengers to fight. This leads them to a tournament where they meet a bunch of new characters, including a team of musicians (who seem to be more interested in performing than fighting), a group of martial arts experts, and another team of hunters.
As they compete in the tournament, strange things start to happen. The music team disappears, and the martial artists are suddenly revealed to be computer-generated avatars. It soon becomes clear that Team Mercury is behind the mysterious happenings at the tournament, and the girls are determined to stop them.
The action in this episode is non-stop, and the fight scenes are some of the best in the series so far. The animation is top-notch, and the choreography is impressive. The new characters are all interesting, and it's exciting to see so many different fighting styles on display.
All in all, "New Challengers" is an excellent episode of RWBY. It's action-packed, funny, and exciting, and it sets up the rest of the season in a very promising way. If you're a fan of the series, or just looking for some great anime-style action, this episode is definitely worth watching.
