Rush is a TV series that explores the world of an on-call doctor who caters to the rich, famous, and otherwise privileged clientele of Los Angeles. This episode opens up with Dr. William P. Rush (Tom Ellis) waking up in bed next to a stunning model, and even as he rushes to freshen up for the morning, it is clear that he is no ordinary doctor. He goes on to consult with one of his clients, Xavier, a notorious underground club owner, who has overdosed on a particular type of drug. Xavier needs Dr. Rush to fix him up as quickly as possible before his opening party, and Dr. Rush obliges. However, as he leaves, he is confronted by two men, and it is made clear that he owes money to the wrong people, and he's running out of time.

The next scene introduces Dr. Alex Burke (Larenz Tate), an old friend and medical school classmate of Rush's, who is now a straight-laced doctor at a hospital. When Alex's patient's condition worsens, he calls in Dr. Rush for a consult. Dr. Rush quickly diagnoses the underlying problem and saves the patient's life, making him look good in front of his colleagues. This leads to Alex asking Rush to partner with him in his private practice, but he declines, stating that he's doing just fine on his own.

Dr. Rush's next patient, a young adult daughter of a prominent businessman, is suffering from a mysterious ailment and refuses to be hospitalized out of fear of the potential gossip and media attention. She insists that Dr. Rush treat her discreetly, which he does in his private clinic, where he finds out that she's pregnant and suffering from blood clots. He treats her, and the news of her pregnancy leads to a change of heart from her father. He hires Dr. Rush to be his daughter's personal physician and further hints at future elite clientele.

In the final scenes, Dr. Rush tends to Xavier at his club opening party, where he's still recovering from his overdose, masking his symptoms so that he can continue with his partying. However, the thugs Dr. Rush owes money get into a fight with Xavier's security personnel, with Rush being caught in the middle of it. In the ensuing chaos, Dr. Rush gets pulled over by the police for DUI. Still, he talks himself out of the situation, and he's let go, further proving that he can charm his way out of anything.

Overall, Rush S1 E1 provides a fascinating insight into the world of an on-call doctor for LA's elite. The fast-paced premiere episode does an excellent job of introducing the main character, Dr. Rush, and establishes his unconventional nature with a fast and unpredictable story arc. The show has a great cast, with Tom Ellis playing the charming and cocky lead character, perfectly embodying Dr. Rush's rogue spirit. The show's excellent writing aptly sets the tone of the series, with well-developed supporting characters and a few hints of a long-term story arc, adding a degree of depth to the already captivating plot. This premiere episode conclusively piques the interest of viewers, and it is no wonder that the show enjoyed a successful run, with its first episode giving it the boost it needed to become a fan-favorite.
