Jeff and Audrey are trying to make plans with their friends, but are having trouble coordinating a time that works for everyone. When Audrey suggests they use the "shy dial" method, where they call someone and then hang up after one ring to signal that they want to talk, Jeff is skeptical but ultimately goes along with it.
Meanwhile, Adam and Jennifer are dealing with their own communication issues. Jennifer is upset that Adam doesn't seem to be as excited about their upcoming wedding as she is, and she worries that he's not taking it seriously enough. Adam, for his part, is frustrated that Jennifer keeps trying to involve him in every detail of the wedding planning.
As the episode progresses, the various couples start using the shy dial method to communicate with each other, with mixed results. Jeff accidentally calls a client instead of his friend, Russell, which leads to an awkward encounter. Adam mistakenly thinks that Jennifer is calling him for sexy time, when in fact she just wants to talk about wedding invitations.
As the evening wears on, the group's plans fall apart and they all end up going their separate ways. Jeff and Audrey decide to stay in and watch a movie, while Russell ends up alone at a bar. Adam and Jennifer have a heart-to-heart about their wedding, and while they don't resolve all their issues, they at least begin to understand each other better.
In the end, the shy dial proves to be more trouble than it's worth, with everyone feeling frustrated and isolated by the end of the night. But despite the miscommunications and misunderstandings, the various couples all come out of the experience a little bit closer and more connected than before.
