Season 1 episode 9 of Ruby Gloom is titled "Quadro-gloomia". The episode follows Ruby and her friends as they try to solve the mystery of four paintings that have been stolen from the museum in Gloomsville. The paintings depict four different emotions: joy, sadness, anger, and fear. After the paintings are stolen, Gloomsville is overcome with a strange energy that causes everyone to feel the emotion depicted in the painting that corresponds with their mood.
Ruby and her friends set out to find the missing paintings and stop the strange energy from spreading throughout Gloomsville. The gang splits up and investigates different parts of the town to gather clues. The first painting they find is the one depicting joy. When they locate the painting, they find that it is being guarded by the rather temperamental and easily agitated Mr. Bunsen, who is not pleased with the gang's presence and tries to chase them away.
The gang is not deterred and continues their search for the remaining paintings. They come across the painting depicting sadness in a forest and it is guarded by a group of crying trees. The trees are not keen on parting with the painting, but through a little bit of compassion and understanding, the gang finds a way to convince them to give up the painting.
Next, the gang sets their sights on the painting representing anger. They find it in an abandoned factory, guarded by a fierce guard dog named Fang. The gang manages to get past the dog and recover the painting, but not before the dog knocks over a container that unleashes a toxic gas.
Finally, the gang discovers the painting of fear in a haunted house. They must navigate through the various spooky and scary rooms of the house to reach the painting. It is being guarded by a ghost that tries to scare them away, but the gang is able to outsmart the ghost and retrieve the painting.
With all of the paintings recovered, the gang decides to return them to the museum. However, they discover that their troubles are not yet over. A strange energy emanating from the paintings begins to take hold of the group. They are each affected by the emotion depicted in the painting that corresponds with their current mood. Ruby, seeing the danger that the paintings pose, devises a plan to contain the energy and restore order to Gloomsville.
In the end, Ruby and her friends are successful in containing the energy and returning the paintings to their rightful place in the museum. The group learns an important lesson about the power of emotions and the importance of taking control of them rather than letting them control you.
