Royal Pains is a medical drama television series which aired on the USA Network from 2009 to 2016. The show follows the life of Dr. Hank Lawson, a young physician, who becomes a doctor for hire after being fired from his job at a hospital in New York City. Along with his younger brother Evan, Hank moves to the wealthy Hamptons neighborhood, where he treats patients ranging from the rich and famous to local residents. Royal Pains explores the nuances of life in a wealthy community and the challenges that come with treating the well-to-do.

Episode 2 of Season 5 is titled "Blythe Spirits" and follows Hank as he juggles two challenging cases. The episode begins with Hank treating a patient who is experiencing bizarre symptoms, including hallucinations and seizures. Despite his best efforts, Hank cannot seem to find a diagnosis for the patient. Meanwhile, Hank's brother Evan has his own problems when he discovers that the company he works for is under investigation for insider trading.

As Hank continues to search for a diagnosis for his patient, he becomes increasingly suspicious that the patient may be suffering from a rare form of dementia. However, when the patient's wife suddenly falls ill with similar symptoms, Hank begins to suspect foul play. Through a series of investigations, Hank learns that the couple's house is severely contaminated with toxic mold which is causing their symptoms. Hank proceeds to save the couple and confronts the person who was responsible for the contamination.

While dealing with the illness of his patients, Hank is also providing medical care at a charity fundraiser for a local museum. While there, he is approached by Blythe, a wealthy, eccentric woman who desires Hank's medical services. Initially reluctant to take on another patient, Hank eventually agrees to help after Blythe presents him with an irresistibly generous offer.

As Hank treats Blythe, he realizes that her condition is much more serious than she initially let on. He soon discovers that Blythe is suffering from a rare neurological disease that is causing her to lose control of her body. Unable to stomach the idea of losing her independence, Blythe is determined to find a cure. With Hank's help, she comes up with a creative solution that might just save her life.

Meanwhile, Evan is grappling with the news that the company he works for is under investigation for insider trading. Unable to shake the feeling that he is responsible for the company's woes, Evan becomes increasingly paranoid as the investigation continues. Eventually, he comes clean to his brother, Hank, who helps him devise a plan to right the wrongs that have been committed and hopefully avoid any repercussions.

As the episode comes to a close, Hank successfully diagnoses and treats both of his challenging patients. However, he is left with the lingering question of whether or not medicine is still his passion. Meanwhile, Evan sets out to right the wrongs of his company and try to restore his own sense of self-worth.

Overall, "Blythe Spirits" is a compelling episode that explores some of the themes that make Royal Pains such a beloved show. From the challenges of treating wealthy patients to the intricacies of familial relationships, this episode has something for everyone.
