In the Roseanne season 6 episode 5, titled "Be My Baby," the Conner family is dealing with a variety of emotional and romantic issues. Darlene and David's relationship has hit a rough patch, and they're both struggling to figure out whether they want to stay together or break up. David is feeling frustrated and underappreciated since Darlene is always busy with school, and he's starting to feel like he's not a priority in her life.
Meanwhile, Roseanne is dealing with her own romantic problems. She's been feeling neglected and taken for granted by Dan, who's been too preoccupied with his own problems to pay much attention to her. Roseanne is feeling like she needs some excitement and romance in her life, and she's starting to entertain the idea of cheating on Dan.
The tension between Darlene and David comes to a head when they have a fight after David tries to surprise Darlene with a romantic dinner. Darlene is too stressed out from school to appreciate the gesture, and David feels hurt and rejected. They both end up storming out of the house and spending the night apart.
Meanwhile, Roseanne decides to take matters into her own hands when it comes to her romantic situation. She goes out to a singles bar with her friend Nancy and ends up meeting a handsome, charming man named Edgar. They hit it off immediately and spend the evening flirting and dancing.
The next day, Darlene and David both try to apologize to each other and patch things up. They admit that they've been taking each other for granted and agree to work on communicating better and making more time for each other. However, David is still feeling insecure about their relationship and asks Darlene to reassure him that she's committed to him.
Meanwhile, Roseanne is feeling guilty about her behavior the night before. She's torn between her desire for excitement and romance and her loyalty to Dan. She tries to talk to Dan about her feelings, but he's distracted and dismissive. Later, Roseanne has a heart-to-heart with her sister Jackie and realizes that she doesn't want to jeopardize her marriage.
In the end, Roseanne decides to break things off with Edgar and focus on her relationship with Dan. Darlene and David also make peace and vow to work on their relationship together. The episode ends with the Conner family sitting together at the kitchen table, laughing and joking with each other.
