Roseanne is a sitcom that chronicled the lives of the Conner family living in working-class America. In season 3 episode 10, titled "Dream Lover," the family is gearing up for Thanksgiving, and as per usual, things are not going as planned.
The episode opens with Roseanne (played by Roseanne Barr) waking up from a very vivid dream about Fabio, the Italian model who graced the covers of numerous romance novels in the '90s. Roseanne becomes increasingly obsessed with the dream, much to the amusement of her family. Meanwhile, Becky (played by Lecy Goranson) is feeling down because she believes her boyfriend Mark (played by Glenn Quinn) is not interested in her anymore.
As the family prepares for Thanksgiving, Darlene (played by Sara Gilbert) reveals that she has a new boyfriend named Jimmy (played by Danny Masterson) whom she met at a poetry reading. Despite Dan's (played by John Goodman) initial suspicion, Jimmy seems like a normal guy, and the family takes a liking to him.
As the day progresses, Roseanne's obsession with Fabio continues, and she even tries to recreate her dream by taking a nap in the afternoon. Meanwhile, Becky's sadness deepens, and she confides in her sister Darlene that she believes Mark is cheating on her. Darlene tries to reassure her, but Becky remains unconvinced.
The family gathers around the table for Thanksgiving dinner, and tensions are high. Roseanne is still fixated on Fabio, and the rest of the family is starting to get annoyed with her constant chatter about him. Becky is still upset about her relationship, and her mood is starting to bring down the rest of the family.
As the night wears on, Becky gets a surprise visit from Mark, who confesses that he has been having a difficult time at work and that he loves her. Becky forgives him, and the two share a sweet moment. Meanwhile, Roseanne is still daydreaming about Fabio, but her fantasy takes a comedic turn when Darlene enters the room wearing a Fabio wig.
The episode ends with the family gathered around the table, happy and content. While their Thanksgiving didn't go as planned, they were able to come together and support each other through their individual struggles.
Overall, "Dream Lover" is a classic episode of Roseanne that showcases the warmth and humor of the Conner family. While the episode deals with serious issues like infidelity and self-doubt, it does so with a light touch, never losing sight of the show's comedic roots. With excellent performances from the entire cast and a heartfelt message about the importance of family, "Dream Lover" is a must-watch for fans of the show.
