Rosario + Vampire is a Japanese anime series adapted from a manga of the same name. The series was created by Akihisa Ikeda in 2004. The manga was adapted into a two-season anime series in 2008. The series first aired in January of 2008 in Japan, with a North America release occurring in December of 2011. Australia and New Zealand will receive releases in 2012. The companies releasing this series are Funimation Entertainment, Viz Media, and Madman Entertainment. The two seasons come out to a total of 26 episodes.

The series takes place in a school for monsters and demons called Yokai Academy. The school is cut off from the rest of the world by a barrier that can only be breached through a tunnel. This tunnel provides entry from multiple points across the country.

The series follows Tsukune Aono, a normal human who gets accepted into Yokai Academy. Tsukune was unable to get into any other schools due to his poor academic performance. Tsukune is unaware of the nature of the school, but quickly discovers that his classmates are demons and other supernatural creatures. Even worse for Tsukune, these creatures will kill any human they discover on school grounds. Tsukune must then pretend to be a supernatural creature in order to survive.

Tsukune makes several friends that protect him and his secret. The first friend Tsukune makes is Moka Akashiya. Moka is a vampire. Moka also very quickly becomes Tsukune's primary love interest. Over the course of the series Moka develops a taste for Tsukune's blood. Moka also wears a rosario, or rosary, around her neck. Whenever the rosary is removed Moka's personality completely changes and her power grows exponentially. This usually happens in order to protect Tsukune.

Another friend and love interest for Tsukune is Kurumu Kurono, a succubus. This character originally starts off as an enemy, but quickly becomes friends with Moka and develops feelings for Tsukune. The final friend and love interest is Mizore Shirayuki, who is a snow woman. A snow woman is a supernatural creature from Japanese legend. Mizore spends most of the series stalking Tsukune.

In conclusion, Rosario + Vampire is a typical harem comedy produced by Gonzo. The main character is a fairly useless individual who is being pursued by multiple powerful women who protect him. The series ended with 26 episodes, and there are no plans for a third season.
