Rommel is a show bound to demystify Erwin Rommel a field general during World War Two. The show tries to better explain the story of Rommel to which there are very many different variations. In this series Rommel is portrayed as a moral coward, a loyal soldier and general to Hitler and his regime. Rommel was afraid of Hitler and what he is capable of doing to him and went along with everything that the Nazi regime plotted.
The series shows a more realistic and true approach to the history of Rommel and gives a better understanding of what he was all about. The show questions the depictions of Rommel as an anti-Nazi hero. The film concentrates on the last 7 months of Rommel's life, as he sets up the defenses for the Atlantic wall before the Allied forces D-day landing. Rommel knows of the assignation attempt that is plotted against Hitler but is too weak to join in and instead hopes that the German forces will surrender to the Allies. Rommel is portrayed as a great ambivalent figure, only to end his own life by his own hand as the German forces fall to pieces.
