On the first episode of the animated series Rocket Monkeys, called "Inspection Day/Tail Fail!", viewers find themselves introduced to the two main characters Gus and Wally, two monkey brothers who explore and go on adventures through space. The episode begins with the two monkeys being rudely awakened by their boss Dr. Chimpsky, who informs them that it is Inspection Day and that they must get ready for an inspection from the powerful Lord Peel.
As they get their spaceship ready, Gus and Wally bicker and banter back-and-forth, each blaming the other for their disarray and failures. As they finally take off and head to their destination, Gus discovers that the button labeled "Ignite" on their spaceship is actually a self-destruct button, forcing the monkeys to eject from their ship and land on a nearby planet.
As they try to figure out a way out of their predicament, they stumble upon an enormous and fascinating creature, but are unaware that it is actually Lord Peel, disguised as a monster. While the monkeys are busy admiring the creature’s unique qualities, Peel begins to capture them, taking them back to his ship.
Wally and Gus must now figure out a way to escape Peel's grasp, using their wits, their teamwork, and Gus' impressive farting abilities. As they plan an escape, Dr. Chimpsky, who finds out about the predicament they are in, dispatches his robotic assistant YAY-OK to rescue them.
Meanwhile, Gus and Wally commandeer one of Peel’s ships, only to realize they are just flying in circles. As they desperately try to avoid being caught by Peel, they accidentally enter a time loop, endlessly repeating their escape from Peel's clutches.
As their time in the loop comes to an end, they finally find a way to escape, thanks to YAY-OK, who uses his advanced technology to defeat Peel's army and bring the monkeys safely back to their spaceship. As they celebrate their escape, they realize that they have left behind an important part of their ship – the tail.
Desperate to retrieve it, they return to the planet they originally crashed on and search for it, but soon realize it is in Peel's possession. Gus bravely goes back to Peel's ship, using his farting abilities to distract the guard and retrieve their tail.
The episode ends with the monkeys back in their spaceship, ready for their inspection, but Dr. Chimpsky revealing that it is actually his own inspection and that they have failed due to the destruction of their original ship and their absence from duty.
Overall, "Inspection Day/Tail Fail!" sets the stage for the adventures of Gus and Wally, introducing viewers to their silly but lovable personalities, their zany adventures, and the intergalactic trouble they often find themselves in. With teamwork and a bit of luck, the Rocket Monkeys are always able to overcome their obstacles and emerge victorious.
