Alan tells Robin and his men the story of how he fell in love with a noblewoman named Cristabel, but their love was forbidden by her father, the Sheriff of Nottingham. Cristabel is promised to another man, but Alan refuses to give up on his love for her. Robin sympathizes with Alan's plight and offers to help him win Cristabel's heart.
Meanwhile, the Sheriff has grown suspicious of Alan and his band of musicians and believes they may be working with Robin Hood. He sends his men to capture them and bring them to Nottingham Castle. Alan manages to escape, but his friends are captured and taken prisoner.
Robin and the outlaws devise a plan to rescue Alan's friends and help him win Cristabel's heart. They disguise themselves as traveling musicians and sneak into the castle to perform for the Sheriff.
