In Roadkill season 4 episode 12, entitled "Junkyard Big-Block Samurai," fans of the show are treated to yet another exciting adventure featuring the dynamic duo of David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan. This time around, the pair set their sights on a 1979 Plymouth Trailduster, which they uncover in a junkyard.
Despite the fact that the vehicle has been sitting for years and is in questionable condition, David and Mike quickly decide that they want to see if they can bring it back to life. And what better way to do that than with a big block engine swap? Of course, they just happen to have a 383ci small-block engine lying around that they've been wanting to use, so the timing is perfect.
As they start to take apart the Trailduster, they begin to realize that this might be more of a challenge than they initially thought. Not only is the vehicle in rough shape, but they also discover that it has a full-time four-wheel drive system that they'll need to deal with. Despite these obstacles, they forge ahead, installing the new engine and a custom camshaft.
But that's only the beginning of the work that needs to be done. From there, they have to address a laundry list of other issues, including a faulty transmission, leaky fuel lines, and brakes that are nearly non-existent. It's clear that this build is not going to be easy, but David and Mike are up for the challenge.
As they continue to work on the Trailduster, they encounter a number of setbacks and surprises along the way. For example, they discover that the vehicle's front differential is completely shot, and they're forced to rebuild it on the fly. They also stumble upon a few unexpected features, such as a hidden gun rack and a small compartment that seems to be designed for smuggling things.
Despite all of these challenges, David and Mike eventually manage to get the Trailduster up and running. They take it out for a test drive, and they're thrilled with how it performs. It's loud, powerful, and a whole lot of fun to drive. They even take it off-roading and push it to its limits, getting it muddy and getting themselves dirty in the process.
Overall, "Junkyard Big-Block Samurai" is a classic episode of Roadkill that's sure to delight fans of the show. It's full of the kinds of challenges, surprises, and triumphs that have become synonymous with David and Mike's adventures. And with the Trailduster now in their hands, who knows where they might take it next.
