Roadkill follows the adventure-as-entertainment format and sees David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan, two of HOT ROD's most brilliant gearheads, travel the world with a plethora of old cars in their possession. The show's episodes are filled with vehicle challenges, pranks, and, of course, automotive hilarity.
In Roadkill season 11 episode 12, titled "Mirada-Wreck Runner Road Trip!", Freiburger and Finnegan embark on a journey with two long-neglected Dodge muscle cars- a 1974 Mirada and a W100 Power Ram truck. The episode follows the duo as they give life to both vehicles with junkyard parts, loving dedication, and a willingness to go to great lengths to achieve their target.
The episode starts off with the team playing tug of war with the Dodge Power Ram truck's Mopar 440 engine and the early-1970s Dodge Charger. However, things quickly take a turn when Finnegan and Steve Dulcich try putting the engine into a 1974 Dodge Dart. However, it doesn't work, and they have to resort to a more unexpected vehicle: a 1985 Mercedes-Benz 500SEC.
The Mercedes-Benz provides a complex scenario that the team tries to wrangle through, trying their best to fit the engine inside the vehicle while also ensuring it is equipped with the necessary high-performance parts to keep it from exploding. From massive tires to a host of interesting spare parts and litter, the team goes all out to perfect the car to fit the desired scenario.
The next morning, the teams drive to the start of their adventure, where the car they will build takes on an impressive combination of high-performance and custom parts, all juxtaposed to preserve its original look. The crew then makes their way to the Wreck Runner Obstacle Course.
With Finnegan behind the wheel and a stack of tires in the back, they make their way over hills and complete various obstacles. However, when all is done, it's the Mirada that proves to be the standout performer, impressing with its off-road skills.
As they venture deeper into the backcountry, with Freiburger behind the wheel piloting the Mirada with great effect, they take on various challenging tasks, including a number of jumping competitions that leave the vehicles severely damaged. However, the team continues on and finishes well, creating an impressive set of results that more than encapsulate the efforts they put forth in this episode.
The episode concludes with the team loading up their haulers with the vehicles and heading home, ready to take on the next challenge and continue the work they have been doing for years. "Mirada-Wreck Runner Road Trip!" is another installment in the classic series of Roadkill episodes, and it delivers the competent level of destruction and automotive antics that both fans and casual viewers have come to expect from the show.
