As the name suggests, "Muscle Truck Returns" is all about reviving a classic street truck that was sitting in a dusty garage for decades. Roadkill brings back its iconic '70s-era Chevy Stepside muscle truck, which has become a fan-favorite but hasn't been seen on the show in years. This episode takes viewers on a nostalgic journey as they watch the team try to bring the truck back to life and create an even more powerful version than before.
The episode kicks off with Roadkill co-hosts Mike Finnegan and David Freiburger explaining that they're taking on a unique challenge for this episode. They acquired the Chevy Stepside truck in a previous season, but it has been unnoticed for years since they started using other cars. They're now determined to bring it back to life by installing a high-performance engine and gearing system. As car enthusiasts know, restoring an old car is never easy and comes with many challenges. However, the duo has tons of experience and doesn't give up easily.
As the team gets to work, the show does a great job of showcasing their passion and excitement as they breathe new life into this incredible truck. Finnegan and Freiburger begin stripping the vehicle down for the major overhaul. To ensure that the existing frame and other parts are structurally sound, they take it to the local parts supplier and machine shop to measure and tweak everything to the right specifications.
After that, the team begins the arduous task of installing a new motor, transmission, and other components. As the mechanics explain, installing a big-block engine into any truck or car isn't an easy task, but it's crucial to get it installed correctly to have the beastly amount of power drivers covet. Regardless, Finnegan and Freiburger seem to have a lot of fun working under the hood and playing around with engine parts.
The episode also includes some interesting graphics explaining how different motors affect a vehicle's performance, speed, and torque on the wheels. It is fascinating to learn about vehicle mechanics, and even a novice auto fan can appreciate the team's effort in transforming this truck into something powerful.
As the modifications continue on into the night, Roadkill co-hosts show viewers their progress with each new addition and modification. The duo does an excellent job of highlighting some of the specific components, which keeps things interesting, particularly for gearheads. As fans of the show would know, every Roadkill episode is incomplete without some off-road thrashing. Finnegan takes the new Chevy Stepside to a local off-roading area, and the trucks' new suspension system performs outstandingly well.
One of the most challenging parts of the project comes in this episode's final minutes, when the co-hosts test the newly restored muscle truck on the road. It's one thing to make these modifications and install new parts, but it's another thing entirely to make sure everything works together perfectly to create a driving experience that pumps up adrenaline. Finnegan and Freiburger strap themselves in and take the truck for a spin on the open road, where they get to push it to the limit.
This Roadkill episode may not be the most action-packed or dramatic, but it's still a good watch for gearheads. The team's passion and enthusiasm for cars are highly evident throughout the 30-minute episode. Overall, this episode brings back a classic truck and shows how passion, hard work, and experience can combine to create a beastly ride.
