Ep 3. Frosty Face Off
- June 26, 2000
In season 9 of Road Rules, the cast of six contestants are on a cross-country adventure to complete various challenges and missions. In episode 3, titled "Frosty Face Off," the team finds themselves in a winter wonderland in Park City, Utah.
The episode starts with the cast waking up early to go outside in the freezing cold for their first mission. They are split into two teams of three: the Reds and the Blues, and are given an ice block to sculpt into a specific shape. The catch is that they only have 30 minutes to finish the sculpture and it must be judged by a professional ice sculptor.
The Reds decide to carve a swan and the Blues decide on a car. They both struggle to make the sculptures due to the cold weather, and are running out of time. In the end, the Blues come out on top with a perfect replica of a sleek sports car and win the first mission.
The second mission is a race down the mountain on snowboards. Before they start, they must choose one team member to do a "Frosty Face Off" where they put their face in a bucket of ice-cold water and then run through the snow to a designated spot. The first team member to make it to the spot earns their team a 30-second head start in the race.
The Reds choose Veronica to do the Frosty Face Off, while the Blues select Shane. They both submerge their faces in the bucket of ice water and take off running through the snow, but it's Shane who makes it to the spot first. The Blues get the head start, but it doesn't give them the advantage they expected and the Reds end up winning the race downhill.
In the next mission, the cast has to find a certain marker in a vast snow-covered area using snowmobiles. They are given a map, but no compass to navigate with. The Reds are confident in their ability to find the marker, but the Blues quickly realize that they're lost. Even with the map, they struggle to figure out which direction they need to go in. The Reds find the marker first, winning the mission and making it their second victory of the day.
In the final mission, the challenge is to stand on one foot with their hands tied behind their backs while trying to pop each other's balloons attached to their opponents' waists. The first team to pop all three balloons of the opposing team wins the challenge.
The Reds go up against the Blues in this endurance-based final mission. They stand on one foot with their hands tied behind their backs and begin popping balloons. The game is intense, with both teams putting up a good fight. However, in the end, it's the Blues who come out on top with all three balloons popped, winning their second mission of the day.
After the mission, the cast sits down with host Kit Hoover to discuss the experience of filming in the frigid Utah weather. They all agree it has been challenging, but fun, and they have formed a sense of camaraderie as they continue on their journey across the country.
"Frosty Face Off" was an exciting episode of Road Rules, with its snow-filled challenges and unexpected victories. The cast continued to show their resilience and teamwork, making for an enjoyable viewing experience.
