In the first episode of R.L. Stine's The Haunting Hour season 1, titled "Really You" (part 1 of 2), we are introduced to a young girl named Lily who is obsessed with a doll named Lily D which she received as a gift from her parents. Lily D has a striking resemblance to Lily herself, which makes her even more attached to the doll.
Lily's parents are constantly busy with work and travel, leaving Lily alone with Lily D to keep her company. Lily spends her days playing dress-up with the doll and taking endless selfies with her. She even has a miniature replica of her own room made for Lily D. One day, while taking a selfie with the doll, Lily notices something strange. The doll's eyes move ever so slightly.
Lily dismisses it as her imagination and continues to play with the doll. But when Lily's friend comes over to play and notices the strange behavior of the doll, Lily begins to suspect that something is not right. She decides to investigate and discovers a series of disturbing photographs hidden within the doll's clothing. The photos depict Lily in various poses, but it's clear that they were taken without her knowledge or consent.
Lily is horrified. Not only has someone been spying on her, but they've been using the doll to do it. Lily becomes paranoid and starts to suspect everyone around her. She confronts her parents, but they dismiss her concerns and tell her she's being silly. Lily's friend tries to comfort her, but even she starts to act strange after spending time with Lily D.
As the episode progresses, Lily's fears intensify. She starts experiencing strange occurrences, and the line between reality and imagination becomes blurred. She becomes increasingly isolated and paranoid, and the viewer is left wondering if Lily's fears are justified or if she is simply imagining things.
"Really You" (part 1 of 2) sets up the eerie tone and suspense of the series, with a storyline that is both creepy and relatable. The concept of a doll coming to life and potentially spying on its owner taps into a primal fear that many people have. The episode also touches on themes of isolation, imagination, and the blurred lines between reality and fantasy.
Overall, "Really You" (part 1 of 2) is a strong start to the series and an excellent introduction to the world of R.L. Stine's The Haunting Hour.
