Chuck and his pal Fearless flee a South African carnival when their sideshow causes a fire. After several similar escapades, they've finally saved enough to return to the USA, when Chuck spends it all on a "lost" diamond mine. But that's only the beginning; before long, a pair of attractive con-women have tricked our heroes into financing a comic safari, featuring numerous burlesque jungle adventures.

Rich playboy Drogo Gaines is in imminent danger of marrying a gold digger, and escapes by feigning insanity. The joke's on him when he wakes up in an asylum full of comical lunatics. There he befriends Colonel Carraway, and together they escape, catching a ride with a beautiful blonde who proves to be Penguin Moore, carnival owner. The adventures of Drogo and the Colonel with Moore's Carnival are replete with Hal Roach slapstick.

Reissued by Realart Pictures in 1953 as "Texas Road Agent", with a title change because RKO had just made a 1952 film using this title, and this was the first year that Universal's "Road Agent" was known as "Texas Road Agent" and that was not a 1941 alternate title as shown by some revisionist-history sources. The actual 1941 filming title was "The Sonora Kid." Duke Masters (Dick Foran) and his two pals, Pancho (Leo Carrillo) and Andy (Andy Devine), are undercover agents for an express company sent to round up a gang of bandits who have been holding up stages carrying gold to the cattlemen of the district. They begin by hijacking a gold shipment from the three bandits who took it from the stage. They take it to town and drop it at the bank. The money was the annual payment to the cattlemen, who are excitedly surrounding bank president Sam Leavitt (Samuel S. Hinds). Steve (John Gallaudet) and the two gunmen who helped him rob the stage are in the crowd. They report this unexpected turn of events to their boss, Big John Morgan (Morris Ankrum.) Morgan tries unsuccessfully to pin the original robbery on Duke and his pals. He later confers with Leavitt who is an unwilling tool in the holdups. Morgan tries to decoy Duke, Pancho and Andy out of town while his gang holds up the bank, but Duke, with the help of Leavitt's daughter, Patricia (Anne Gwynne), beats them to it and cleans out the bank himself, taking the money to Leavitt's home to cache. But Morgan, Steve and the gang are in pursuit. Duke Masters and his chums hold up the men who held up the stage, deduct a finder's fee, and deliver the money to the bank. But two men were murdered in the original holdup, and several of the big players in town are in on the robberies, so things aren't all that healthy for Duke and the boys.

When the showboat hits town, two men use the parade as a distraction to rob the bank. Their accomplice is Pop, the clown from the showboat. He leaves the money on the boat and tells his daughter Patsy to bring it to him at a later stop on the river. When Patsy arrives without the money, both her and her father are made prisoners. So she sends her trained dog back to the showboat for help.Gene's investigation of a bank robbery takes him to a showboat. There he finds that teenage singer Patsy's father has been working with the robbers to provide for her future.

A stupid football player (Oakie) is kidnapped by gangsters. Lunatics abound: a former footballer now dancer (Murphy), a professor interested in magic (Meek) and a gangster who makes horse noises when excited (Berle).

Tom Brandon (Richard Cromwell), a young doctor who, working with and for the police department, takes a job as the doctor for a gang of criminals. His fiancee, Mary Davis (Rita Quigley), who he can't tell the real reason for his actions, breaks their engagement.

Young undefeated boxer Terry Dolan, who's been lying to his invalid mother about his career, confides to Maisie that he hates and is terrified by boxing and wants out. Not wanting to let down his best friend and manager Skeets Maguire, who has hopes of him becoming the next champion, he is reluctant to bring up the subject with him. Maisie convinces Terry to tell Skeets, whose unexpected reaction induces him to step into the ring again.

It's the ranchers whose cattle are dying of thirst versus Henry Dodge whose dam holds all the water. When windmills are built and they start pumping water, Dodge has them blown up. When a court order forces him to release the water, he decides to blow up the dam and flood the valley. Whopper (Lee "Lasses" White) and Smokey (Ray Whitley) come to Los Gatos to ask Clay Stewart (Tim Holt) for a job on his recently acquired Tumbleweed Ranch. Clay has just learned that Henry Dodge (Eddie Dew) has built a dam on his ranch which will deprive the other ranchers of water unless they make a deal with him. Clay and other neighbors, including Tappan (Karl Hackett) and Bert McLeod (Earle Hodgins) attend a meeting to protest Dodge's unwarranted action. Jackson (Larry Steers), the ranchers' lawyer, tells them that the judge who ruled in favor of Dodge based his decision on English Common Law which allows a man to buy both the land and the water flowing through it, while Spanish Law allows only the purchase of the land, with the use of the water being guaranteed to those whose property lies along the stream. Jackson will appeal the decision to the Territorial Court in Albuquerque, but the ranchers make a decision to have a well sunk and the water pumped by a windmill. Windmill builder Ezra Westfall (Charles Phipps), on his way to Los Gatos with his daughter Joan (Joan Barclay, in the first of her RKO films under a two-year contract and billed here for the only time as Mary Douglas), is attacked by Dodge's henchmen who throw his equipment into a canyon. The ranchers, led by Clay, Smokey and Whopper, join forces to retrieve and repair the equipment, and manage to get the project under way. But Dodge's men set the workshop on fire. Clay goes to see Dodge and pretends that the ranchers are licked and willing to sign a contract to buy water from him. He does this to gain time to finish the windmill which was not damaged by the fire.

Yates has hired Petrie and his men to stop logger Kerrigan from fulfilling his contract. When Petrie's man Slade gets the loggers to quit, Kerrigan's daughter arrives with a new crew. When they destroy the flume, Hoppy builds an overhead line to transport the logs. Now desperate, Petrie sets out to blow up the dam and Hoppy takes to the overhead line in an attempt to get there in time to stop him.

The plot has Jim Benton (Dick Foran) as the head of a vigilante group, known as the Riders of Death Valley, organized to protect the miners from the take over plots hatched by Joseph Kirby (James Blaine) and Rance Davis (Monte Blue). They hire Wolf Reade (Charles Bickford) and his motley crew to do their dirty work, and spend most of their time lamenting their choice of sub-contractee as Reade deals his employees as much misery as he does the "Riders" and miners. Benton's "Riders" are Tombstone (Buck Jones), Pancho (Leo Carrillo), Smokey (Noah Beery, Jr, who is a no-show in most episodes_4-18), Borax Bill (Big Boy Williams) and Tex (Glenn Strange).
