Rhoda season 3 episode 7, "An Elephant Never Forgets," follows the titular character as she tries to plan her upcoming wedding to Joe. However, complications arise when it is revealed that Joe's former wife, Barbara, may still have feelings for him. Rhoda's insecurities about their relationship are heightened when she discovers that Barbara has sent Joe a large, exotic plant with a note attached. Rhoda becomes convinced that the plant is a signal of Barbara's desire to win Joe back and begins to spiral into jealousy and paranoia.

In the midst of her concerns about Barbara, Rhoda also has to navigate her relationship with her mother Ida, who is staying with her for the week. Ida, as usual, proves to be a handful, criticizing everything from Rhoda's cooking to her wardrobe. Rhoda tries to keep a brave face, but eventually snaps at her mother, causing a rift between them.

As the episode progresses, Rhoda's fears about Barbara intensify, culminating in a disastrous confrontation between the women. However, in the end, Rhoda realizes that her jealousy was unfounded and that Joe truly loves her. The episode is a poignant exploration of the insecurities and anxieties that can arise in relationships, as well as the complexities of family dynamics.
