Ep 1. The End of the Beginning and the Beginning of the End

Subaru Natsuki is a socially awkward teenager who finds himself suddenly transported to a fantasy world. As he wanders the streets of a bustling market, he is unexpectedly attacked by a group of thieves. However, he is saved by a beautiful girl named Satella, who possesses powerful magic abilities. In return for her help, Subaru offers to help her locate a stolen insignia that is important to her.

As they begin their quest, they are ambushed by the thieves once again, and Satella is killed. In a strange twist of fate, Subaru awakens to find himself in the same market where he first arrived in the fantasy world, but everything feels different. He soon realizes that he has been transported back in time, to the moment right before Satella is killed.

Determined to save her this time, Subaru attempts to change the course of events and save Satella's life, but his efforts are in vain. Each time he fails, he is sent back in time to before her death, forced to relive the same moments over and over again. As Subaru struggles to uncover the truth behind Satella's death and break the cycle, he learns that his ability to "Return by Death" comes at a great cost.

As the episode draws to a close, Subaru realizes that he is not the only one who possesses special powers in this new world. He encounters a mysterious silver-haired woman who claims to know about his time-traveling abilities, but warns him to be careful. With more questions than answers, Subaru sets out on a new journey to uncover the secrets of this otherworldly realm and the power behind his ability to "Return by Death."
