In season 5 episode 8 of Restoration Garage, titled "Speed and the Demon," the team at Gotham Garage takes on two unique projects. The first project is a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner Superbird, a rare and highly sought after muscle car. The second project is a 1971 Dodge Demon, that owner Gary says "needs a little work."
The team initially seems more excited about the Superbird project, as the car is already in good shape and only requires a few modifications. They add a new carburetor, eliminate the air intake silencer, and install a new exhaust to give the car more power. They also replace the wheels with a new set of period-correct ones, and add a new spoiler to the rear to give the car a more aggressive look.
Meanwhile, the Demon project is proving to be a bit more challenging. The car arrived in rough shape, with lots of rust and missing parts. However, the team at Gotham Garage is up to the task. They tackle the bodywork first, replacing or repairing any damaged panels. They also add a new coat of paint to the car, but instead of the original dull orange color, they opt for a bright red that really makes the car stand out.
Once the bodywork is complete, the team moves onto the engine. They install a new carburetor and exhaust, as well as a new camshaft and rocker arm assembly. This gives the car more power and a throaty exhaust note that sounds amazing. The team also installs new wheels and tires, which complete the car's transformation from a rusted-out shell to a beautiful and powerful classic muscle car.
Throughout the episode, the team discusses the history of these iconic muscle cars and the unique challenges of restoring them. They also share tips and tricks for working on classic cars, such as how to properly adjust the timing and fuel mixture on a carburetor.
Ultimately, the team is proud of the work they've done on both the Superbird and the Demon. They take the cars out for a test drive and show off their power and performance, much to the delight of owner Gary and the rest of the team. The episode ends with the cars parked in the garage, ready for their next adventure on the open road.
